5 Inch Floor Lift on Giant Barn
Challenge
David is a farmer in Bolckow, Missouri. As a farmer, David has a lot of farming equipment, so a few years ago he had a building constructed to store all of that equipment. Although it was recently built, the floor of the building is already settling significantly. You may be wondering what settlement actually is, it means that the concrete slab moves due to the soil below no longer being able to support the weight of it.
David reached out to Thrasher because he wants the concrete lifted in order to be able to use the building again. It's important that he can use the barn to keep his equipment locked up and out of the elements. His other option was to just tear out all of the existing concrete and replace it, but he doesn't think that's the best option since that's how he got here in the first place.
Our Service Design Specialist, Ben Hawley, went out to David's farm to assess the situation. Just as he thought, the concrete had settled. The soil under the slab was eroding and wasn't compact enough to hold up the concrete. As this is a pretty big area and the concrete was sinking significantly, we knew this was going to be a big job.
Solution
The goal of this job was to lift and level the concrete floor, and that's just what we did. Our crew went out to the barn and used PolyLevel foam for the project. The team ended up lifting the concrete 5 inches! This is the perfect example of just how strong the PolyLevel foam is.
What is PolyLevel, and how does it work?
PolyLevel is an expanding polyurethane foam that is injected into the void below the concrete. It is injected through small holes that are drilled into the slab. As the foam expands, it lifts and levels the slab above. It's an easy process, plus it's waterproof, which means it won't wash out or dry out like traditional materials. Even better, this service has a five-year warranty!
Now that the concrete in the building is stable, David has returned his equipment back to where it belongs! Do you think your concrete is settling? Schedule a free estimate here to see if PolyLevel will work for you.
