KANSAS CITY, Kan. – March 4, 2019
Thrasher, Inc., headquartered in Omaha, purchased the building at 13501 Arrington Road in Grandview, which formerly housed KC Master Companies, and hired all 29 employees in Kansas City on November 1, 2018.
KC Master Companies contained two divisions, branded Pier Masters and Master Mudjackers. For over 30 years, Dave and Ruth Frey worked to establish a company that people could trust for concrete leveling, foundation repair and basement waterproofing solutions. In 2018, the Freys decided it was time to retire and began to look at outside opportunities for their company.
At the time, Thrasher, Inc. had been serving the Kansas area for a little over a year after expanding into the Wichita area in place of Kansas Basement and Foundation Repair in August of 2017. With a 44-year history in the basement and foundation repair industry and thriving network of foundation repair dealers across the United States through sister company Supportworks, the Thrasher family is no stranger to the challenges of a growing business.
“The expansion brings new opportunities for both our employees and the customers we serve,” states Thrasher, Inc.'s president, Dan Thrasher. “We're raising the bar by providing a one-of-a-kind experience for homeowners across the Midwest, and also plan to create new jobs and opportunities for growth for our employees.”
The Freys were familiar with Thrasher and the Supportworks dealer network, and witnessed their success in collaborating with Kansas Basement and Foundation Repair out of Wichita in 2017.
“The decision to enter retirement wasn't easy,” Dave and Ruth added, “but after seeing the success Thrasher had with Kansas Basement and Foundation Repair in Wichita, we knew that our KC Masters employees would be in great hands with Thrasher.”
Thrasher has begun the process of on-boarding former KC Master employees. The direct industry experience they bring has allowed for production work and advanced training to continue simultaneously.
“The staff here in Kansas City bring tremendous industry knowledge and haven't missed a beat during the company transition,” says Jeff Baron, General Manager for Thrasher in Kansas City. “Our production crews know their stuff. The advanced training from Thrasher and Supportworks will help us provide outstanding customer service alongside the quality work.”
The property at 13501 Arrington Road includes a 9,800 square-foot warehouse and 10 acres of land. “We've got 6 acres of unused land that we plan to utilize in the coming years as we grow and expand our services in the Kansas City metro area,” says Dan.
In addition to Nebraska and Western Iowa, Thrasher now serves the entire state of Kansas, plus Northwest Missouri, from Kansas City and Wichita.
“My parents started this business from their basement in 1975 as a way to make a living, thinking primarily they were going to help whoever needed help and do their best and hope it worked out in the long run,” says Dan. “I don't know that the vision was necessarily there to grow and become a large company, but on the other hand, I think that just says a lot about what happens when you take good care of people. Growing up, I always remember my parents putting their employees first and doing whatever it took to make people happy. And that's something that we continue to carry on today. Our people – both our employees and our customers – are what make us who we are.”
