EverBrace Saves Caved in Walls
Challenge
Patricia has lived in her home in Peyton, CO for quite some time now. Recently, she noticed the wall in the basement beginning to crumble. Now Patricia is concerned that if she doesn't get it repaired soon, the wall could fail, creating even more damage to her home.
Patricia lives in an older home that was likely built with a crawlspace foundation. At some point, the homeowners dug out the crawlspace and made space for storage, the HVAC, and the water heater. The problem is that when they did this, they put a concrete skim coating over the dirt wall that was dug out instead of installing a proper concrete wall. Over time, the pressure of the soil caused the concrete coating to fail.
After our initial visit to the home to discuss a solution, the wall caved in and had even less soil supporting the home. We were now sure that this was going to be a big project in order to save the home.
Solution
When starting the project, we had to address the caved-in wall. We shored up the wall and cleaned out to soil to get it prepared for our foundation solution. To repair the basically nonexistent wall, we used two SmartJacks. Our SmartJack system permanently lifts and stabilizes basement beams and floor joists. They are supplemental support that is used in conjunction with an existing column. This solution is more than just a bandaid and addresses the issues that caused the issues in the first place.
In addition to the SmartJack system, we installed the EverBrace wall support system. EverBrace is the perfect solution for a failing foundation like Patricia's that is past the point of reparation. It works for bulging, bowing, cracked, or crumbling basement walls. EverBrace is steel corrugated panels that span between I-beams to strengthen the existing structure. Then a special foam is injected behind the panels that fill the void between them and the wall. This allows the load to be transferred from the failing wall to the EverBrace system. To put it plainly, EverBrace acts like a new foundation wall.
